BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE EXCLUSIVE UK APPEARANCES FOR 2012 FROM ICED EARTH & SEPULTURA.

Metal titans ICED EARTH and thrash icons SEPULTURA are the latest additions to BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2012, joining an already stellar line up that includes headline sets from ALICE COOPER and BEHEMOTH, as well as exclusive appearances from WATAIN, special guests DIMMU BORGIR, HATEBREED, BLACK DAHLIA MURDER & many more.

ICED EARTH were born in 1985, formed by Jon Schaffer – a determined, street-tough kid with the drive to create a band to make his heroes Judas Priest, KISS, and Iron Maiden proud. The band released its riff-heavy self-titled debut album in 1990 and never looked back. Nine studio albums – considered masterpieces of metal – cemented the band’s reputation for crafting exceptionally well-made music, the centerpiece of which being Schaffer’s trademark rhythm guitar style and powerful, in-your-face lyrics that often combine themes of self reliance, a healthy distrust of authority, history, and science fiction. He says:
"We are looking forward to returning to Bloodstock in 2012, our second time after 2008. The UK shows we played on our World Dystopia Tour last fall were some of the best on the tour and we cannot wait to bang our heads with the UK minions again!"

Over the years, Schaffer has surrounded himself with some of the finest musicians in the world – including famed vocalists Matt Barlow, Tim Owens, and now Stu Block – to help bring his musical visions to life. This summer Schaffer brings this vision to BLOODSTOCK once more, for their only UK show of 2012, and one of the highlights of the metal festival calendar.

SEPULTURA is one of the major names in metal history. From their humble beginnings 27 years ago, these Brazilians went on to create a legacy, influencing a whole generation of younger bands and becoming a true institution. Despite rough times due to significant line-up changes, nomadic relationships with record labels and various changes in the overall musical environment, SEPULTURA have never backed down, continuously following their path, always re-emerging stronger than ever before.

BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR has added another two fantastic acts to a line up already boasting the top names from the world of metal. The deadly double dose announcement comes in the form of Floridian death metal behemoths NILE and Norwegian Black Metal Legends MAYHEM, who both make their BLOODSTOCK debut.

With four critically acclaimed albums, a few EPs and several world tours under their belt, NILE has raised the bar for extreme metal bands musically, lyrically and conceptually. Guitarist/vocalist Karl Sanders says:

Boasting withering live performances that are nothing short of legendary, expect NILE to deliver one of the most crushing sets of the weekend.

We are pleased to announce the return of melodic metal titans SIGHT OF EMPTINESS who made their UK debut back in 2007 opening the main stage at Bloodstock after being voted by the public as the winners of Bloodstock’s Online Unsigned Competition.

Since then the band have worked tirelessly and gone on to achieve so much in the last 4 years. They were handpicked by Megadeth and Amon Amarth to support their shows in their homeland of Costa Rica and are now the biggest metal band in Costa Rica and Central America spanning 7 countries.

Band member Eduardo Chacón says:
“Bloodstock 2012, are you ready? Sight of Emptiness is COMING HOME! Many amazing things have happened to our band since we won the 2007 “ Unsigned Competition ” and played the Main Stage. We have released one more album and have another one in the works for 2012, won two ACAM Grammys (in Costa Rica), played shows in front of 15 000 people, shared stage with Megadeth and much more. BUT having another opportunity to play Bloodstock has been huge on our want-to-do list. Looking forward to see all our UK friends and together destroy the Sophie Lancaster Stage.”

Metal photographer Martin Hobby won an award for a photograph taken at last year’s BLOODSTOCK festival:

'Event Photographer of the Year 2011' was awarded to Dartford based photographer Martin Hobby. The Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP) presented Martin with this prestigious accolade at their 2011 annual awards ceremony. The dinner was hosted this year by SWPP’s own Juliet Jones and television presenter Philippa Forrester.

The image that clinched the award was taken at the Bloodstock Heavy Metal Festival and depicts the crowd empathetically cheering. The judging panel commented:
“ The emotion of the image was caught at just the right moment and makes the viewer wish that they were there.”

Martin obscured the efforts of many worldwide members of the SWPP, who submit images in a variety of disciplines to a monthly competition. Each image is categorised gold, silver, bronze or unclassified. Over the course of the year gold status images are considered for the celebrated 'Photographer of the Year' awards. Across the thousands of entries, with competitors ranging from those new to the industry to seasoned veterans - only three nominations exist for each category.

Much like another BOA which will be doing the rounds this summer – Bloodstock Open Air (B.O.A!!) will be seizing the moment to inspire the youth of the world through their heroic efforts, not as athletes, shot putters or scantily clad maidens in the beach volley ball, but with the power of true breaking metal!!

The Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses will not be carrying the beacon of hope in a world so much in need of peace, healing and unity but will be passing the flame of Metal brotherhood to no less than 16 venues in the UK and a building number of regions in both Scandinavia and Europe.

And our mission? To find the best breaking Metal bands on the scene for the biggest Independent Metal Fest in the UK!

Unsigned bands looking to play Bloodstock and take hold the flame can apply directly to local promoters who are running Metal 2 The Masses events up and down the UK, not only to find acts for Bloodstock 2012, but with the possibility of winning a further slot at either Wacken or Metalcamp in 2013.

BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR starts the year with another fabtastic announcement for its 2012 event at Catton Hall this summer, confirming Floridian death metal legends DEICIDE’s only UK show of the year.

Always at the forefront of the death metal movement, DEICIDE was an original pioneer of the brutal sound and imagery associated with the Florida death metal scene. In 1987, Glen Benton and Steve Asheim teamed to launch one of the most talked about, controversial and venomous crusades in metal history and have since risen to
International notoriety, releasing two of the highest selling death metal albums of all time.

DEICIDE quickly became known for their technical yet brutal sound as much as the rumors that surrounded them. After famously marching into the office of Monte Conner (Roadrunner Records) and demanding “Sign us, you fucking asshole!” the band went on to create the definitive sound of 90s death metal thanks to their ability to play technical solos at blazing speeds with overlapping riffs. DEICIDE also created an astounding ten studio albums that have changed the face of the extreme metal scene.

Now they bring their blasphemous brutality to BLOODSTOCK for the first time, offering the only chance to catch them live in the UK this year.

With Christmas virtually upon us we have decided to help one of our own, 2 year old Harriet Gregory, by auctioning off two pairs of Serpents Lair ‘VIP’ weekend tickets for next years Bloodstock Open Air.

Serpents Lair ‘VIP’ tickets are due to go on sale mid December, but two lucky winning auction bids will be the first to receive their tickets and all for a very good cause.

Harriet was born severely disabled and since birth has had life saving operations as well as literally dozens of tests and procedures to try and diagnose her severe life threatening medical condition that has baffled medical science.

Harriet is unable to suck or swallow and has no motor skills at all, so for every hour of every day, little Harriet is hooked up to machines that monitor her heart as well as a tube to feed her, whilst the oxygen and equipment surrounding her 24 hours a day keeps 2 year old Harriet alive.

In the meantime Harriet`s day-to-day quality of life remains the priority. The Gregory family managed to raise vital funds to build a special room for Harriet at the family home. The room is a sterile hospital type environment that is fully equipped with all the necessary oxygen cylinders, heart monitors and any other medical requirements to make Harriet comfortable.

The family continue to try and find answers into what is wrong with little Harriet and have put all their hopes in finding someone that will try to transplant stem cells as this now appears to be her only hope, but this is extremely expensive as this treatment is primarily done in the United States.

The e-bay auction will take place from 1st December 2011 until 7th December 2011. The highest bidders will receive their Serpents Lair VIP tickets once funds have been paid in full. All proceeds will go directly to the HELP HARRIET TRUST .

Polish blackened death metal monsters BEHEMOTH have announced an exclusive UK festival appearance at BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2012. Originally scheduled to perform at the 2010 event, the band were forced to cancel after frontman NERGAL was diagnosed with Leukemia. After undergoing treatment including a bone-marrow transplant, the enigmatic frontman is fighting fit and ready to bring BEHEMOTH’s brutality back to the UK:

“We couldn’t do the show for obvious reasons last time, I was in a deep shithole with my sickness, but I really felt obliged to come back and do BLOODSTOCK as soon as possible. We are really fortunate that they invited us back, we couldn’t turn it down, and this is the perfect opportunity to make this up to the people that missed us last time. For us it’s a great pleasure to come back to the UK after two years, and I can promise we will bring full production - lights, pyro - it’s gonna be awesome and we can’t wait. This is not only the first time we headline a festival, but also our first open air appearance in the UK, so it’s gonna be special!”

"Bringing Behemoth back to Bloodstock in 2012 was our mission, they have been one of the MOST requested bands we have ever been asked for” states festival booker Vicky Gregory. “We know the fans will give them one hell of a reception. GRAND MAGUS AND BLACK DAHLIA CONFIRMED

Reformed Seattle Thrash heroes SANCTUARY will make their first UK appearance in over 20 years at BLOODSTOCK this summer. Featuring frontman Warrel Dane and bassist Jim Sheppard, SANCTUARY rose to fame in the late 80’s after releasing their debut album “Refuge Denied”, produced by Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine. Two years after releasing their second album, “The Mirror Black”, the four piece disbanded, with Dane and Sheppard going on to form NEVERMORE.

But now SANCTUARY are back, and after a massive hiatus, are ready to return to the UK for their only show of 2012. Says Frontman Warrel Dane:

“Really psyched to play Bloodstock 2012. It’s the band’s first time back in the UK in over 20 years and we are honored to be invited to one of the greatest summer festivals in the world. We can’t wait to thrash it up with our fans! See you in August 2012.”

Joining them with be Michigan metallers THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and Swedish metal merchants GRAND MAGUS.

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER has crammed quite a bit into its 10 years together - five albums, three EPs and a DVD (2009's MAJESTY). The face-melting Detroit quintet has made a career out of being unpredictable - unhinged, unclassifiable and unrepentant, all in the best possible ways, expect a fiercely vicious barrage of brutal modern metal at their BLOODSTOCK debut. Says frontman Trevor Strnad:

GRAND MAGUS bring their familiar trademark sound for their only UK festival appearance of 2012, melding traditional riffs and melodies that rock in the same league as Judas Priest and Dio.
