The Bloodstock team are pleased to announce that Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH have been added to the bill for Bloodstock Open Air 2010. This will be their only UK festival date in 2010!
Behemoth were formed in the city of Gdańsk in 1991 by guitarist/vocalist Adam ‘Nergal’ Darski, originally as a primitive black metal band. Two years after their landmark 1993 demo ...From the Pagan Vastlands, their first album Sventevith (Storming Near the Baltic) was released, followed in 1996 by their second full-length Grom. 1998’s Pandemonic Incantations further solidified their growing cult following in the underground and paved the way for the following year’s Satanica which marked both a breakthrough in terms of exposure and a shift in style to incorporate death metal influences. 2000’s Thelema.6 saw the band beginning to gain serious exposure in the mainstream music press and embark on major tours with the likes of Carpathian Forest, Krisiun and fellow countrymen Vader.
Many believed that Behemoth would struggle to improve on Thelema.6, but with 2002’s Zos Kia Cultus (Here and Beyond) they did it in style, touring the US for the first time in 2003 on the back of the album’s success. Demigod, released in 2004, and 2007’s The Apostasy have also met with widespread critical acclaim, the latter bagging the band a slot on the second stage of that year’s Ozzfest and launching them into their first headlining tour of the US. The band’s first live album At the Arena ov Aion – Live Apostasy followed in 2008, forming a welcome stop-gap before the appearance of their latest opus, the recently released Evangelion. Currently on tour throughout the world, Behemoth will be in ferocious form when their assault on Bloodstock begins.
