Metal and skating have gone hand in hand since the early days of 'boarding, when the thrash metal scene was knee-deep in skate culture. Since then, the likes of BLOODSTOCK’s main stage artists, ANTHRAX and MUNICIPAL WASTE are often seen sporting 'Thrasher' or 'Creature’ merchandise, and Randy Blythe of Sunday night headliners, LAMB OF GOD often waxes lyrical of his love for the sport. Check out some of his skate photos on his Instagram account ( www.instagram.com/drandallblythe). Randy insists; "Skating is pure. Skating is FREEDOM. I feel blessed that I can still do it, because for a long time, skating and underground music was all I had. Both gave me a whole other family besides my blood relatives, and I will always look at the world through skater’s eyes. If you see me at the spot, come say WASSUP and let’s ride!!”
Now BLOODSTOCK are reclaiming skating for metal, and together with the alternative mail order online retailer ATTITUDE CLOTHING and legendary skateboard company SHINER DISTRIBUTION, are bringing you 'DEATH TO FRESH', the ultimate in utterly brutal, no-teeth, heavy metal skating, and the first skate event to be held in BLOODSTOCK FESTIVAL's history.
Tearing up a 6ft x 18ft ramp at the fest will be the most heavy of metal pro-skaters from the UK and beyond, including the CREATURE SKATEBOARDS and INDEPENDENT TRUCKS teams performing high octane, board-breaking displays all weekend. Both skate companies are deeply rooted in the metal scene, and have even collaborated with the biggest and best names in metal and punk, from DARK THRONE to TRASH TALK, making them the perfect fit for the UK's most extreme festival in more ways than one!
Riders such as STU GRAHAM, CARL WILSON, COLIN ADAM, TREVOR JOHNSON and LEE BLACKWELL (plus more TBA) will be shredding on the ramp to the brutal sounds of some of the greatest metal bands on the planet, all weekend at BLOODSTOCK 2013. Don’t be surprised if you see LAMB OF GOD’s Randy Blythe there, either with a ‘board, or his trusty camera!!
Meantime, check out a clip of pro-skater and metal fan, Lee Blackwell talking all things skate!
