The Bloodstock team are pleased to announce that guitar legend and former Manowar axeman ROSS THE BOSS will be added to the bill for next year’s Bloodstock Open Air Festival .
Born Ross Friedman, Ross The Boss got his first break with New York proto-punk band The Dictators, whom he joined in 1973. After recording three seminal albums, the band split in 1979 but Ross soon met bassist Joey DeMaio with whom he formed Manowar in 1980. Manowar recorded a total of six albums with Ross The Boss, beginning with their 1982 debut Battle Hymns and running right through to 1988’s Kings Of Metal. Fans generally regard this period as the best in the band’s history.
In the years following his departure from Manowar, Ross has performed with a wide variety of other bands, including the reformed Dictators and the Brain Surgeons who also feature former Blue Öyster Cult drummer Albert Bouchard.
In April 2006 he performed what was intended to be a one-off set of early Manowar tracks at Germany’s Keep It True Festival, backed by German Manowar covers band Men Of War. However, such was its success that this line-up went on to play further European festivals and eventually began working on new original material. In August 2008, they released their debut effort New Metal Leader, a full-on return for Ross The Boss to the pure heavy metal sound with which he made his name.
