BEGGAR
London-based four-piece Beggar propound a kind of sludge-meets-extreme-metal carnival of riffs, blasts, fury and anguish.
Comprised of Charlie Davis (vocals/bass), Abraham Whitworth (guitars), Jake Leyland (guitars) and Bertrand Sautier (drums, of French deathgrind outfit Sedative), Beggar have shared stages with Slabdragger, Elephant Tree and EyeHateGod.
Founded in Bristol in 2011 as a means of melding stoner grooves with a blackened mode of expression, these guys have evolved over several EPs (culminating in 2017’s Chainscraper) into something that might defy categorisation altogether.
Though not a ‘stoner’ outfit, their sound nonetheless nods to the monoliths of tone that this tag implies. More multi-faceted than the death metal or hardcore genres denote, this lot still use the sheer brutality and visceral dynamics of those styles as their primary means of propulsion.
Across their palette Beggar absorb post-metal at its heaviest and most psychedelic; grunge and stoner at the peak of their melodicism, and death metal and grind’s belligerent, berserk kinetics – all with the heft and nihilistic bluster of sludge. And they fuckin’ shred.
Beggar record their debut album in July 2019 with Wayne Adams (responsible for works by Green Lung, 11Paranoias and Terminal Cheesecake) at Bear Bites Horse, London.
We are totally thrilled to play the Jagermeister Stage at Bloodstock 2019 and cannot wait to unleash hell.
We’ll be coming fresh from recording our debut album so this is a great opportunity to show off our studio tan and our deep dislike for each other.
Expect a mess of screams, blasts, riffs and swagger.
