SWAMP COFFIN
"Swamp Coffin are definitely a band to keep a close eye on"- Kerrang!
"Like Black Sabbath warped by hardcore and contemporary cynicism"- Decibel
Formed in Rotherham in 2016, Swamp Coffin have forged a vicious, nihilistic sludge sound which is inspired as much by personal trauma and grief as it is by the town that birthed the band. Blending their love of the NOLA sludge of Crowbar, Corrosion Of Conformity and Eyehategod with the Britishness of Iron Monkey, Labrat, Mistress and Carcass, Swamp Coffin have carved their own brand of extreme metal filth.
Starting originally as a duo, lifelong friends Jon Rhodes and David Wistow put out 2017's two track demo "Hey Ho, Stolen Logo" featuring Jon's younger brother Jamie on vocals. With Jon taking over vocal duties shortly after and the addition of Shawn Denton on bass the follow up, 2019's "Flatcap Bastard Features", was released. Inspired by the sudden death of Jon's brother-in-law and the house fire nine months later that left him and his family living in a caravan, the record is a 34 minute long, groove laden therapy session.
2021 saw a line-up change with Martyn White taking over bass duties, the band signing to APF Records and the release of debut full-length Noose Almighty. Thematically following on from where Flatcap left off Noose Almighty is a crushing yet cathartic album for both band and listener. Recorded in only three days at Top Floor Audioworks in Sheffield the record tackles themes of grief, depression, loss, suicide and a general disenchantment with the world. It was met to critical acclaim from the likes of Kerrang, Metal Hammer, Decibel, Metal Injection and Zero Tolerance amongst many others. They’re also rumoured to be the only sludge metal band in history to get a full page spread in the Rotherham Advertiser.
Swamp Coffin have so far shared stages with Bongzilla, Conan, Raging Speedhorn, Coffins, The Body and Secret Cutter amongst others.

"Playing Bloodstock is something that we've always had on our bucket list so to be asked to play is a massive honour. Let's make this the biggest Bastard Club meeting yet. We're gonna bring that fucking tent down."
