Akercocke
Formed in 1997 by Jason Mendonca, Paul Scanlan and David Gray, Akercocke’s internal mission statement was and is to this day to aspire to create seminal music. Inspired by diverse luminaries that the band acknowledge as musical pioneers, aesthetic influence is drawn from Voivod, Suffocation, Killing Joke, Bathory, Death and Rush to name but a few. The band members all have eclectic tastes covering a multitude of genres including Jazz, Electronica, International Folk, New Wave, Goth, Fusion, Psychedelia, Prog Rock, elements of which have all melded into the bands core of Death, Thrash and Black Metal.
Akercocke’s critical track record is unsurpassed by any rock or metal band in memory. This is best exemplified by no less than three five K reviews for studio albums in Kerrang Magazine.
Positive reviews were reflected in the international press which led to a number of worldwide tours and festival performances over a period of thirteen years.
After a five year break during which individual members pursued other projects, the three founder members have returned to their original purpose; to create new and innovative music. Complimented by the addition of bass player Nathaniel Underwood, Akercocke are presently producing their 6th studio album ‘Renaissance in Extremis,’ which is tabled for an Autumn release.
To all the Akercocke enthusiasts who have continued to share their positivity for the project, we thank you.
