BAAL
Formed in Sheffield in 2016, blackened post metal quintet Ba'al have built a reputation over the past 12 months for intense live experiences in their hometown and a number of festivals across the north - something which they aim to carry into their debut release this summer.
Founded by Steff (Vocals) and Nick (Guitar), Ba'al shuffled their lineup a number of times before settling on James (Drums), Richard (Bass) and Tom (Guitar) to complete the current incarnation which has seen them perform at a number of high profile events alongside current up-and-comers Conjurer, Calligram and Hundred Year Old Man as well as established Post-Metal front runners, Downfall of Gaia.
Taking inspiration from a wide range of influences, Ba'al combine the impassioned intensity of Amenra with the delicate intricacies and sledgehammer assault of Cult of Luna. There are elements of sludge and black metal thrown into their savage brand of post metal that make for a fierce yet ethereal live show.
2017 looks to be a huge year for Ba'al as they end their first run of performances in May ready to record their debut EP in time for Bloodstock Open Air - and their sonic onslaught is only getting heavier, darker and nastier.
From all in Ba'al we are honoured and excited to be asked to play at Bloodstock Festival. For all of us it has been a great journey to get here; we went into the Metal to the Masses contest honestly not expecting to win and just enjoy ourselves and hopefully make an impression on people. We are all honestly amazed with the reaction and are truly honoured to have been asked to play.
Bloodstock is a fantastic festival that is very well respected within the music industry, so to be able to just be there let alone play is amazing. We hope to be able to carry the intensity of the live performance that has taken us this far to the festival and beyond, and carry the flag for Sheffield music.
