BAD EARTH
When local promoter Steve Rastin asked the question " how come BAD EARTH sound heavier now as a trio than as a quintet" , the band answered " because sometimes less is more
And you've just got to cut to the chase and tell it straight".
It was a nervous time back in 2019 when Stephen Coxon (Vox / Guitar) was informed that his long time drumming brother, Ren Stefan was quitting the band to return to his homeland of Czech Republic. After discussing his options with Ben Burke and Karl Ditcher of Scars of Remembrance fame, they both offered to step up and keep the BAD EARTH wheels Rolling. Immediately it was
clear that the combination of Pounding “Metal – Core” drums and grooving bass tones gave a new dimension to the BAD EARTH sound.
"Bad Earth have moved away from their Stoner-speed groove to a more hard-metal sound,
which makes them probably the area’s only metal band, in the true sense of the word.
Seeing this colossus on stage leaves you in no doubt that you’re never going to ask them to babysit for you or take your gran out shopping – they'd scare the living shit out of them!"
- Neil Crud, Link2Wales
Originally formed as a quintet back in January 2014, BAD EARTH was the brainchild of founding members Stephen Coxon and Ren Stefan, who were looking to explore their musical creativity after a period playing together in a covers band. Based in Denbigh, North Wales , UK, the original line up performed their debut show under the name of HARD LINES. Labelled as a Stoner Rock band , they gained strong reviews from their local music scene playing their second gig, opening for US Stoner giants KARMA 2 BURN at Chester LIVE ROOMS and most recently were runners up in the North Wales M2TM.competition (2019}
The name BAD EARTH was adopted when during a problematic rehearsal, buzzing caused disruption in the practice room, and after considerable cable pulling, it was determined that a " bad earth" in the electrical system was the cause, so the name was conceived.
Whilst retaining the Huge guitar Riff flavours of their "Stoner Rock" beginnings, BAD EARTH teamed up with Ben Burke ( Drums) and Karl Ditcher (Bass) to provide a Rhythm section for a thunderous fast tempo Hard Rock sound that takes influences from bands such as Motorhead, Clutch, Orange Goblin ,Red Fang, and Baroness, delivering a no nonsense soundtrack to their live shows. The band enjoy a busy schedule, performing at venues across Britain and Eastern Europe, recording their debut album in their newly equipped studio and rehearsal space.
Being invited to play at Bloodstock 2021 is a massive honour to us. When we first set out as a band in 2014 we set ourselves a goal that one day we would play on one of the BOA stages. The Jagermeister stage seem very appropriate for us, as the beverage has been the tipple of choice for many a memorable ( or not so) adventure. Many friends and peers from the underground metal communities around Britain will be at the festival and for us to get up and perform to, celebrate and catch up with those people and to forge new friendships is very exciting. Thanks so much for the opportunity.
